Decompression Sickness (DCI)

Decompression Sickness (DCI)
The Signs:

1. Blotchy skin rash
2. Weakness
3. Paralysis or weakness anywhere in the body
4. Coughing spasms
5. Staggering or instability
6. Shortness of breath
7. Altered mental status
8. Unconsciousness


The Symptoms:

1. Pain, arms, legs or trunk
2. Extreme fatigue
3. Headache, nausea
4. Itching, skin rash
5. Restlessness
6. Numbness, tingling or paralysis
7. Personality changes
8. Reflex changes
9. Bladder problems
10. Chest compression or shortness of breath, dizziness

Anything unusual after the dive

Emergency First Aid :

1. Check airway, breathing, and circulation (ABCs)
2. Administer 100% oxygen
3. Place diver in recovery position
4. Treat for shock
5. Transport to the nearest hyperbaric facility
6. Be sure to get an infusion for dehydration
